Default 103 top end?

Well, winter is fast approaching, so will do my riding via the Forum again. I did a 255 cam upgrade a couple of years ago at 33K miles. I now have about 67K on the bike and have really liked the cam upgrade. The bike is running great but eventually I'll need a top end rework and am getting the bug to do it now and do a 103 HD kit. Since I already have the SE 255's, I won't redo the cams. The tech will do some polishing of the heads but won't mill it down to increase compression.

I'd like your thoughts on the following options.

1. Don't do anything to the bike for another 30K since it's running well now.
2. Do the 103 now and get new valves, guides, pistons, jugs, manual compression releases and clutch spring (thinking I'll go with the intermediate one that comes with the Limited instead of the SE since I won't significantly increase compression). Do you think the 103 will give me a good boost over just the cams? Are there any other parts I should be looking to replace given my mileage? I did new lifters and push rods when I did the cams.

I hate winter and this Forum - can't ride and it always seems to cost me money on the bike! LOL

The 103" would not be worth it, unless you have a 88" , but I thought 07's were 96". A 96 with cams is probably already better than a stock 103. I went from a 96 to 103 and it was very little difference on my SG. Polishing the heads I don't believe is going to give you any seat of the pants feel in power. Getting them ported and leaving the compression stock should still give you some upper end hp. I would think around 5. If I was pulling the heads, I'd get them ported for sure. If you decide not to bore I would think a mechanic would at least recommend new rings.

Yeah, I like this option. Do top-end stuff when needed. That engine should be good for 100k+. Do a compression check. If you're ~185 psi and within ±10 psi on both cylinders you should be in good shape.

No, and certainly not for the expense involved.

Nothing that I can think of.

Move to the Deep South. You'll still spend the money but will also be riding.

Move to Canada. Some of them ride all year also.
