Putting together a 52 panhead that was bored .50 over and has the old slotted style oil rings with the thin ring above and below like alot of other sets. I am missing 1 oil ring set so I ordered a new Hastings ring set which I was told would work but the 3 oil rings stacked are thicker than the old ones. I dont want to replace pistons just yet because then I SHOULD bore the cylinders again or replace them.
I'm starting to believe that there is not a single person on here that knows their *** from their elbow. 28 people have viewed this post in one hour and no one has an answer? If you have **** for brains on these topics, why are you even viewing people posts? Go back to your p*rntube usage.
OP, how about putting the fact that you are looking for '52 piston rings in the title? It is solely your fault people opened your thread to find out you are asking a question very few people have the answer to...
So, I'm the last person in the world that is working on a Panhead? Well thats actually nice to know. Now I can hate on Harely riders even more. Bunch of yuppy dip ***** that take them to the dealer for service. Now that we have that all cleared up, I guess I will figure this out on my own.
@ Max Headflow - Bores are OK but I'm not really happy with them. All the cross hatching is horizontal. Looks like some moron sanded them with 80 grit sand paper or held a ball hone in one spot. I'm willing to burn a $42 set of rings on them but not a new set of pistons.........

Hmmm, great post for someone who's looking for help. Did you ever stop to think that the 28 people who viewed your post didn't have an answer for you and didn't want to clutter your thread with "I don't know" responses? If I did have the answer (which I don't, by the way) you could go pound sand for all I care at this point. Not everyone knows panheads, you know....
Have the cylinders checked by a shop with bore gauges,if their OK,( no taper, out of round & piston to wall clearance) get a set of Hastings rings & have a proper cross hatch honed

Why is it assumed that this is a Panhead specific issue? These might not even be Harley pistons. Someone could have run into this same issue with a mid 80's or 90's bike. Maybe even a car....

Thanks guy but thats what I did... I have a NEW set of Hasting rings but the oil rings dont fit in the vintage piston. The corrugated ring is too thick and the smaller wiper rings cant fit in the ring grove with it. SO....... I was really hoping someone would have knowledge of this issue and be able to direct me to a set of rings or ring company that makes a set that WILL work. It appears that the old slotted style oil rings may be discontinued.
