well first post on here and first season on or owning a harley, i picked up a bone stock 98 electra glide classic with 26xxx mi early this past spring its now at 31xxx mi. its beginning of winter here in michigan and im planning on swapping the stock cam for an ev27 mainly to replace the ina cam bearing for the torrington for peace of mind, im kind of unclear on mainly just the lifters and the lifter blocks. im absolutly going to be replacing the lifters with a new cam but i dont know whats what mainly about what brands are any good or not, and should i replace the lifter blocks when i replace the lifters or should they be fine. thanks in advance for any answers or advice
I've changed my lifters only at 35k, with your mileage you will be fine .the blocks ,I believe will last a good long time ,Good luck with the new ride. EVO forum is where its at !
Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. The Andrews EV27 is a great cam and I used one myself for many years. If you ride 2-up a lot the EV13 is a slightly better alternative. We also have a dedicated Evo section, where you can discuss fine details with other owners. If you fance a more up-to-date performance upgrade, consider contacting one of our HDF sponsors, like Hillside Cycle, who can work wonders with our 'old' engines.
As Graham has mentioned, an EV-13 is a better choice for a plug/play 80" touring machine.
The all-time best was a Crane 300.....no longer manufactured.
If staying with the EV-27 plan(or better yet, a Wood 6)that really wants/needs a boost in compression.
Scott
For piece of mind go with S&S lifters. No, on the lifter blocks. Adjustable pushrods (S&S) and if you want that little bit more slip in a .030 head gasket.. It will make a difference with that 27 cam.... And as graham said if your looking for 2 up the 13..... Very good choice....
One other thing that was mentioned by Scott was at one time the Moco issued a service bulletin to replace the OEM lifters @ 25k.....

So sounding like S nd S lifters, should I get the premiums or just the standard ones, so don't need to replace the lift blocks that was bugging me I couldn't find anything about that, what's the power like with the ev13 over the ev27 and is the up in compression really needed for the ev27 seems like alot of people just slap em in nd have great results , I don't ride two up at all I can't get the ol lady on the bike

Loved the Crane 300-2B. First one I got was one of the ones that suffered from poor heat treating. I caught it before it caused any damage. Tried the EV27 but was it was just not the same as the Crane cam, so I got another 300.
Reviving an old thread here,,
I just put Jim’s lifter in my Evo. (Total rebuild). Turned the motor over and there was no compression in the front cylinder. Ended up finding the exhaust lifter had fallen apart and the piston was stuck inside. After getting it apart and cleaning it. It still doesn’t move smoothly. Feels very gritty. Now I’m afraid to use any of them.
