Default Dyno Break-in

Anyone here do a dyno break-in on a new motor upgrade. As in going from a 103-110 etc? Any thoughts on it compared to the factory driving break-in?

The nice thing about them. It is easier to control and monitor things. Engine temp, air fuel, spark retard, load, throttle position...... usually turns into a full tune. Best way to get a bike turn key.

Did mine on a dyno when going 95" to 107." I wouldn't do it any other way. Assuming you have a competent tuner of course....

Perfect place to settle the engine, under the watchful eye of the info gathered when hooked up to the bike, on the dyno.
The sooner the engine has it's fuel and timing correct, the better for the engine.

I run all my builds on the dyno before turning them back over to the owner. I run them and build a break in MAP for them then give it to the customer for at least 500 miles then I do the final tune. I don't do a full tune from the get go like some of these guys do. My initial "break in" tune is basically a full tune up to 4000 RPM's. I set the rev limiter to 4K for the 500 miles then I do a full tune after that. What I find is that the delta changes to the VE tables can change quit a bit between the initial "break in" tune and the final tune which is the reason I do it this way.

That’s exactly how I’ve been doing it for many years. Never an issue and I’m often surprised at how the VEs change during the break in period.
