The breathers the OP has per his pics are the later stamped assemblies which were introduced in the 2011 MY; the pic from the parts manual are the early two piece aluminum breathers. The OP didn't specify his MY but assume it is an '08-'10 as those are the on years he mentioned in his post. The previous owner upgraded the breathers to the more efficient stamped breathers. I would not run without them, external venting or not but that's JMHO.
The stamped breathers are re-buildable but at $12 per, why bother, just replace the whole assembly.
Board Tracker $12 usd; Canadian funds plus international shipping comes to just under $50 cdn each. Hope my cam kit has the right parts to repair .Dave
A cam kit won't have any breather parts included. Get a buddy in the lower 48 to buy the parts and mail them to you.
PNs are 17025-03A for the complete assembly including the shorter bolts and 26500002 for the baffle assembly (breather valve and filter which is all you really need); the baffle assembly goes for about $6.00/each.
Those are the umbrella valves for the early two piece OEM breathers; different PN so not sure if they are the same as the valves for the stamped breather but could be. The HD bean counters would probably insist that the later stamped breathers use the existing umbrella valve to protect the bottom line.
