Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
If the OPs battery needs replacing, a lithium replacement would be a good idea. Just replaced the battery in my '02 FLHT with lithium and should have done it last time. Shaved about 20 pounds off the weight and it spins, starts faster. A little more money but worth it.
That and the heavier gauge cable from Sumax worked well for me
The only three I looked at were Twin Power, Anti-Gravity and the Battery Tender (Deltran) units. Decision was based on $$/CCA and Twin Power seemed the best bang for the buck. I also bought the Battery Tender "smart" tender which can be used on both lead acid and lithium by selection. I already had the heavy gauge cables but don't think you really need them.
As for the OPs issue, the CCP with OEM cams and the 48s is about the same, 180psi mas o menos. I have had batteries that tested good on a tester but lose their guts when actually loaded; I still think the battery is suspect. Since the CCP with the 48 cams is about the same as with the OEM cams and the motor was spinning fine before the cam change, I would be looking at the cam change and pull a compression test as 2009blackpearle has suggested to verify that the cams are properly timed. If compression testing eliminates timing as the source of the problem, take a harder look at the battery and connections.
Ordered a new battery as I agree that what passes a test doesnt allways work in real life , jumped it with an old PC535 battery i had on the shelf and it spun and fired fine

As I suspected. I hope you went the lithium route; I am very pleased with the difference.
