Default Adjustable pushrods ?

On an 09 ultra 96 why do people suggest new pushrod covers , do you have to replace them or is it a matter of easier ,I understand the differance in the covers . I guess the question is can it be done with the stk covers

Thanks

Dave

At the risk of skint knuckles and a few curse words, adjusting pushrods can be done with stock tubes depending on the pushrod.

Not too bad with Smith Brothers pushrods--they supply a little widget with the pushrods that holds the covers out of the way, access is a little tight though. I would imagine the S&S Quickee pushrods are about the same.

Did it with stock tubes and once was enough. Just to easy to buy HD PN 18404-08 for about $135 complete with pushrods, O-rings, tubes and clips and totally ample hardware for 95% of the builds posted on this forum. Smith Brothers are good hardware but the three piece pushrod is a PITA and the little chingadera that holds the tube up is more trouble than it's worth but that's JMHO.

You're probably right. I did mine when I did my 110"/heads/cam upgrade, so I just installed and adjusted them without the tubes, popped the rockers loose, pulled the pushrods and reinstalled the tubes and pushrods. Sounds time consuming, but it only took five minutes extra to do that way. Readjusting them might be a pain like you say. Hopefully I'll never need to find out.
