Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I ride a 2003 100th anniversary fat boy. Purchased with V&H pipes already on it.
I decided I want more power with this near virgin engine while being the least invasive I can since its basically new. Good thing I know this guy by the name Don Morris who ownes "stay tuned" in mount hope area. His reputation is nothing short of EXCELLENT. I followed his suggestions and had an Andrews 37 cam installed, updated cam plate with new tensioner, new oiling system and a aet of adjustable push rods. Also purchased a power commander 5 as per Dons request as he finds that to be the best programmer for him to work with on that model year.
ill be going to see Don on Saturday for a dyno tune.
Well, to sum it up, basically a unforseen technical issue arose. A few hours later, after a long fought battle against technology, an apology and an explanation of the issue came along with no charge.
My bike is fine but the day was basically lost. I will be back to see Don for a proper dyno tune as planned once my schedule is open enough.
I still have faith and trust in the guy. The problem was not him or his skills at all, just some technical BS got in the way.
Interested in how this turns out. Did the same on my 2003 Road King this winter. 37N cam advanced four degrees, new style cam plate and tensioners. Used a TTS tuner with a provided map.

baseline test as the bike showed up with a downloaded tune showed around 80hp and 90lbft while still not having optimal air/fuel ratio at below 3000 nor above 5000. (I didn't care to dedicate the exact numbers to memory since they will soon be irrelevant)
when I go back I know those ranges will be straightened out and I could end up with a little more power.
Not to be a kill-joy, but we like to use an Andrews 21, or an S&S .509 in an 88" plug & play application.
Both come in much quicker, and will show more peak torque, in an untouched 88".
