Default Fat Boy S 117 install, now not starting.

Hello all
I just finished the 117 kit on my 2016 Fat Boy S. For a breather im running Screaming Eagle Elite high flow breather, exhaust is D and D Fatcat 2-1. Tuner is Vance and Hines FP3. Map was previously 110.

Bike will turn over, all parts moving, just a lot of pop near the breather and shot some flame out the exhaust, but wont fully start. Is it a tuning issue and will it need more than the FP3? Ive read the instructions on needing a tune in a dealership done with the harley tuner. Had two batteries shoot down real quick when the starter was running.
thanks all
Naz

You should try a 'correct' map first and see if that helps, though I would think your bike would at least start with the 110" map. With that said, I am hardly an authority of any sort on the FP3.
Secondly, if that doesn't help, check your cam timing, assuming you changed cams with your 117" upgrade. One or both cams out of timing can and will cause the symptoms you're having.
Next--check your pushrod adjustment. Hope this helps...

Thank you for the reply Martin. I figured out the problem scanning around the forum. I did the same thing another guy did, I had the plug wires plugged into the black coil box backwards. Switched the top wire with the bottom, bike immediately fired up.

Yes using a map i was running with the 110 and was able to select the 259 e cam from the v and h lists with 2-1 generic exhaust. Trying to figure out how to change the engine displacement size though. Dyno shops out here are 3 or 4 hours away at a minimum, may talk to fuelmoto and switch to a dynojet with a map from them.

have a good one

You know, I thought about the plug wires and somehow didn't mention it in my last post. Anyway, glad you found the problem.
I strongly recommend the Power vision. Along with it's tuneability, it has lots of other options for monitoring, clearing fault codes, etc, that I find very handy. In fact, I keep mine mounted on the handlebars so I can monitor speed, rpms and other functions without constantly looking at the gauges on the gas tank.

For the record, I'm currently running a map that Fuel Moto supplied. After a couple of autotunes, it works well and seems pretty close, though seemingly a little rich. No substitute for a good dyno tune, though.

Right on. Called fuelmoto and talked with them, went with the powervision. I like working with them on these things. Id prefer rich over lean though any day.
