Do you have the right gear for the model year? There were two different sizes used on Shovels. Early & late.

The use of gauge pins will help determine the gear pitch diameter, and the exact gear you'll need, if in fact that is the issue.

I know but I thought that a smaller size pinion gear would change the sound, cause it was smaller. Just a little difference in sound, but no.

My 76 FLH sounds the same. I've been trying to locate the noise for years. No luck.
I've changed cam gears also, no change.
I removed the belt in the primary, and went back to chain, no change.
Replaced clutch hub and bearings, no change.
Replaced primary case bearing, no change.
Replaced cam bearing, no change.
I have not replaced the cam cover bushing yet.
