Shovelhead whine. Sounds like cam and pinion

Default Shovelhead whine. Sounds like cam and pinion
I have changed the pinion gear to a smaller size but with no luck. Still whining. Andrews A cam. S&S 4 5/8 stroker, stock cylinder with 0.50 bore. forked S&S pistons. What’s next to do?

May need smaller cam gear as well.

I have gone from blue to white color on the pinion. No difference.

when you changed the cam did you check axial alignment? and free spin? if it isn't running within spec, it will make noise regardless of the pinion. andrews install info should have mentioned this.

Are you only changing the pinion gear?

I have checked everything, also the endplay . There was a wrong year breather gear installed, but thats fixed to . Can the inner bearing or outer bushing make that kind of noise?

I have tried to loosen the cam cover bolts when the engine was running to make more space , but the noise was the same.

yes only the pinion gear . I thought the pinion and cam was to tight.

My 1967 FLH has had a slight whine, more noticeable on decell, for the past 30 years.
