Looking at a friend's 1970 FLH. Trying to help him put together a plan for it. It's been quite some time since I had a shovel and back then, I just got it running and rode it. Not sure of how far we can go in a performance upgrade. I see that Woods is making camshafts for shovels. We are hoping for some good suggestions.

Thank You!

Sorry, but suggestions for what? What are you wanting to do? Performance? Get it running? Paint scheme?
Need a bit more to go by!

Thank you for your response. The bike is running nicely. Tins have just returned from the paint shop. We are looking for a pogo seat; however, primarily, we are looking for suggestions as to performance upgrades and sources for these. For instance, is it better to have original cylinders bored as opposed to replacing jugs and pistons? How far can we go with boring? What should be considered max CR? We want a sreetable machine that behaves well in all operating ranges. If we were to lean towards a direction of preference, it would be WOW torque that comes on early. Clutch upgrades? Stuff like that. Like I said, it's been a while for me.

Oh yeah! And what about head work, deck heights, valves and cams?

Cool

We have a sponsor in Hillside Cycle (there may be others!) who are experienced in tuning shovels and also a keen user of the latest Keith Black cams. They build 80" to 100"+ engines, so give them a call. That way you will get a proven package.

Need to clarify how far you want to go with the build.. The Shovelhead section is a good place to post as well.. You can Hotrod it if you want but it ain't gonna be cheap, especially starting out with a stock 1200.. Mey 77 1200 is modified a little. Pistons, stock heads and crank and an Andrew's A2 Cam with an S$S E.. moves very nicely....
