Hey guys, I've been looking for my frist bike lately and I came across a 1978 FLh that within my price range. It needs some cosmetic work and some wiring but overall seems to be pretty good. The guy selling it claims the motor is rebuilt with s&s parts to 88". I know the shovelheads require some more maintenance than the evo's but i'm capable and like to learn. I'm wondering what kind of problems i would be looking at with this motor and how reliable a build like this would be. Thanks alot.
I hope the price includes all the missing pieces. front fender, primary cover, air cleaner cover. It also says it hasn't been run yet. You may want to hear it start and run a while before you decide to buy it. Almost every old bike is said to have a rebuilt motor, just takin it apart and putin the old stuff back on ain't a rebuild.,,
I would be checkign for receipts for sure on the motor work, kinda seems funny to me that the motor was rebuilt in a shop but never started after the rebuild. The fender, and air cleaner cover arent included. also needs new battery. sucks up here in canada everything here is atleast a cpl grand more then what a person can buy in us for but then gotta get it safetied, shipped and pay duties brings the price back on par.
Man, I hope I don't know this guy, but here goes. Thats an absurd price for that bike. Almost double what its worth. Complete running shovels with disgusting amounts of custom work go for alot less. You obviously know computers, check ebay. And not what the asking price is because anyone can ask anything, but look at the completed listings and see the utter GEMS that $6,500 will bring. I sold my 1975 for $4,500 and was LUCKY to get that. And I had well over triple into her. Don't buy a Shovel that needs a bunch of assembly, buy one that you can sit on, test ride and hear run. There's GOBS of them out there.
the hard part is finding good deals in canada. by the time you drive down to pick it up, pay duty then get safetied etc, the price has gone up $3000. its very hard to find any bike up here for under $10,000.
Best way to fall in love with bikeing! Wrench, Wrench, Wrench. Love to tinker and piddle. Makeing parts you can. Buying parts you can't afford (having to save up to get)
