Default Run out opinions

I checked the run out on my 1999 fxds today and it was .004-.005 using a harbor freight indicator. What does everyone think I should do at this point just move on with my build or, have a local indy check it for comparison or, panic about the crank? I'll be using chain cams with hydraulic tensioner.

Thanks

What does the build entail? Are you going to be putting down some major hp then riding it like you just stole it?

S&S 100ci big bore, 585 ez start cams, super e carb, freedom performance 2-1 exhaust and, a set of ported heads from J&B Cycle (hellfire headz). No clue what the hp will end up at. I'm mostly going to just cruise but the ability to smoke a tire off at 30mph is there I guess. I dont do hole shots or drag race, mid 40's I dont have anything to prove anymore.

I really think the proper way to check the actual runout on that one is on a truing stand. Any shops near you have one?

Not true. If you dont know what I'm talking about or dont understand just dont comment. I set the options I had. A truing stand would dictate splitting the cases. If i was going to do that i wouldn't even have checked it and just sent it out to get plugged welded and trued

If this helps...I’ve used same indicator you’re using and same .004/5 run out and went ahead w an all out 107 build some years back w chain/shoe set up. Had no issues at all but only ran that for about a year or 2 before splitting cases to go up in cubes.

You can do it in the case yes on the pinion side - I was used to using truing stands for getting assemblies true when building engines and was coming from that view.

Also, I was not rude. As far as your response - pretty jerky and quite unnecessary.

With 48 whopping posts under your belt, I hope you continue to treat others in this manner - I am certain you will get wonderful assistance.

Did you check it again before you went up in cubes the second time?

Well here's jerky for you. I asked a very simple question and gave what options I was looking at. Your answer was no were near the options. You put that answer there to try and confuse the situation and most likely to make you feel superior. Also 48 post of 5000 what's the difference. You got called on your answer and now your butt hurt, get over it. Simple thing would be to answer questions within the parameters that are given.
