Default Two issues random sputter and a tapping

1998 custom build Softail S&S crankcase 88ci Harley jugs and heads, Rivera Primo transmission, Dyna 2000 ignition module box, stock cam sensor.

Past couple of weeks I have been having an issue with a random sputter. While cruising down the road every now and then I will get a random sputter like I am running out of gas it will do this for about 50 ft. Then it will stop and go back to running fine. Today I lost fire in my rear cylinder replaced coil and it started running good again. Got about 2 in the sputters started for about 50 ft then stopped went back to running fine one mile later it did it again sputtering for about 50 feet. Doesn't seem to matter at any RPM or how fast I'm going. Petcock filter is new also checked inline fuel filter it's good. There is plenty of fuel flowing from the line. I have adjusted the float Bowl twice and it's right. The carburetor has been cleaned and swapped with a different carburetor and still have the same issue.

Last weekend I went on the 20 mile trip to my buddies house the bike did great all the way there. I left his house got about a mile away started to sputter straightened out and was good the rest of the way home. I don't think it's a carb issue if I can get a good 20 mile trip out without an issue. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Second issue is after the bike warms up I have a loud tapping from the front cylinder exhaust valve. I put a stethoscope on it and the sound is loudest on the exhaust pipe at the head you can hardly hear it from the valve cover. Only starts tapping after bike is warmed up. I have checked the pushrods after bike is warm and they are adjusted properly . Any ideas on this would be awesome too

Default Random Sputter

Ok it did it again this time i pulled the choke for a second when it did it and it stopped
And was fine so I think it could be a fuel issue. It only does it every now any then.... got me stumped.

is your fuel tank venting properly?
is your engine an evo or TC, kinda hard for me to tell from your post. the reason i ask is that the oiling systems are different, and you might be having an il pressure issue when the engine is hot, so for me some clarification would help me to help you.

What carb? Some chokes actually choke back the air, but others are 'enrichening circuits' that allow more fuel. Either way, it implies that you're getting fuel starved intermittently.

I don't suppose the noise started at the same time?
