Default Idle Issues

Hi everyone,

I have a issue that started today when I was out for a ride and I would really appreciate any information or feedback to help me sort it out. I went out mid day and after about two hours I stopped for a break for about 15 minutes or so. When I went to leave and start riding again, I had a hard time starting it and I had to give it gas to keep it running. I made it home but I had to give it gas whenever I came to a stop to keep it running.
I have a 2010 Fat boy lo, the only thing I have done to the bike is change the exhaust to a Vance & Hines big radius 2 into 2. I changed the exhaust last year and this is the first issue I have had, I didn’t connect the O2 sensors because the connectors are a different size, I feel this may be the real reason why.

Any help and feedback is appreciated.

Check for a vacuum leak first. Clean the IAC port/mechanism; Google and search for "cleaning Harley IAC". The IAC is the Idle Air Control and functions much like the A/F idle control screw on a carbed bike. If you have the service manual for your bike, there will be information there explaining function and maintenance. Hope this helps. If none of that works, check the speed sensor.

Not having the O2 sensors connected will confuse the ECM, so you should sort that out before you do anything else. I don't understand why the connectors don't match up. Do you mean the bung size?
You can also check for any leaks in the fuel line inside the tank.

Thanks for the feedback,

I have decided to sort out the O2 sensor issue first as i have been hearing that this will cause bigger problems down the road.

Don't disagree on the O2 sensor issue but the bike has been running without the sensors connected for a year without this issue. Cleaning the IAC mechanism should be done anyway, sensor issue or no and is easy to do; takes about 15 minutes. What exactly is the sensor issue; connector too short? bung size mis-match?
