I have oil that keeps coming out of my breather on a 2010 with a stock 103 and 83 thousand. The bike runs great. I keep the oil on the bottom of the stick. I thinking the umbrella valves need replacement. I should be able to remove the tank open the valve cover and replace the gasket and the sponge or media in the umbrella valve and put it back together. Anything special or things to watch out for. Drilling out the two oil holes is that possible now? Thanks for any insight
Take out the whole rocker plate assembly to drill out drain holes. And best to buy the updated breather assembly that comes in one pre packaged replacement unit just make sure rubber valve and sponge is in right place, they have at times been disoriented in the package.
Not sure exactly what year they changed from the thick cast breathers to the thin stamped units, but if you change from the first to the second you MUST use shorter bolts or head damage will occur. If you buy the breathers as a kit they will come with the correct bolts.
MAKE SURE to blow all of the oil out of both the breather bolt holes and the rocker support bolt holes.... trapped oil will have nowhere to go & again, head damage may happen.
Good luck in the hunt

If the OP buys the right PN, shorter bolts will be included.

I would like to thank rockout for the advice on cleaning the holes for the bolts. I used a Q tip to clean the oil out of the hole. The front umbrella valve was starting to deteriorate and the rear the sponge just falls apart when you touch it
My bike is 2010 limited with 103 but it had the old style of valves. The replacement is the new style with the shorter bolts that I did use.
is you oil bag below the engine?
if not, running factory fill is the way to go, oil does lube, cooling and cleaning and less removes such
that is an ole wives tale running the bag low.
hd does recognize there is an issue with certain models where the bag is lower than the engine and where people OVER_FILL the bag covering the c/c equalizing line which leads to vapor lock(@sustained high rpm running) and loss of oil movement through the engine to the scavenge side of the pump.
a lot of sportster riders do the same and it never applied to sportsters to begin with.
The root issue usually, is the need to evacuate more oil away from the breathers.
This is established via drilling the drains in the rocker plates to .125-.130".
