So my 07 FLHT has been bumped to 103 with SE204 cams. I experience starter kick back when hot sometimes. My two options are ACR's or Easy Start Cams. I'm assuming that eliminating starter kick back will be beneficial to my compensator as well?
I run a SEPST, so finding a map for an Andrews cam wont happen. Outside of going with a Dyno is there an Andrews cam that's close and will work with a SE204 map, or any other Andrews cam that correlates to an HD cam, map wise?
If your looking to go with easy start cams I would think the S&S 510 would perform similarly to the 204 or like you said compression releases..
Myself I would go with compression releases..
Remember that the SEPST maps are designed to work with HD hardware, i.e., exhaust, cams, stock compression, etc. So, there are not any SEPST maps that will work with aftermarket components. Is your SEPST the Pro tuner or the Street tuner? The Pro tuner has been discontinued.
Actually there is a third option; forget the "maps" and get the motor tuned. The SE204 is actually a pretty robust little cam and works great in a 103" motor. The SE204 has a wicked advance curve with 8* of advance ground into the profile and in a 103" motor, CCP is up around 195psi (sea level) which requires a good tune to eliminate heat soaked kick backs. I have seen nice numbers with that combination and a set of 1.7 ratio rockers on the intake side only. Save yourself some money and time and find a good tuner that can work with the SEPST; you will be happy with the results. 195psi is on the cusp of needing compression releases, so get the bike a proper tune and if kick backs continue, pull the heads for a set of manual compression releases.
if youre happy with the performance.. just go into the SE tuner and retard START (750rpm) timing to 0 degrees!! its set at 12 all the way up to 22 advance based on file you chose,
this is by far the easiest and fastest method.. and yes.. solve sthe kickback and makes for easier starting, no starter strain, and no more BIG power draw
compression releases are great, IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTION... but we do.. i have mine disabled... no longer needed after retarding start timing, and im runninga stage 4 with HC domed pistons

Bike is parked for the winter at the moment. I did retard the timing a couple of degrees already. Will save this post and try your suggestion in the spring. Thanks
