Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
My question was not one of if, BUT what. Definitely getting the crank done. Did a little research and made some calls, think I am just getting a true, plug, and weld done.
Haven't gotten around to cleaning and inspecting the oil pump yet, 12 hours at work (gunna need that OT money!)....hoping to get it done tomorrow, will post pics
I'm not seeing the issue. Isn't your measured run out (0.006") a smaller number than the tolerance (0.010")? Can you explain what I am missing?
The MoCo changed the runout spec for warranty purposes from .003" to .012" in '07 when they outsourced the crank manufacture off shore and they anticipated the typical issues of a new supplier having issues; purpose being the avoidance of warranty claims while the new vendor dialed in the manufacturing process. .006" is enough run out to start affecting the oil pump and with no certainty that the .006" will not grow, the OP is smart to address the crank in the process of building a motor that will deliver more power which will most likely cause the .006" run out to grow. Not an issue for the OP but he could not run gear driven cams with .006" runout; chain driven are more forgiving.
I would go with a brand new S&S Flywheel and call it a day. You can check videos on youtube where they test the strength of flywheels after being welded.

Agreed, nothing wrong with a worked stock crank....but hoban is 3-4 weeks turn around time. I think I am going to go with revolution performance. They've also have come highly recommended, but they are only a week turn around.

There is a reason why there is a long turn around at Hoban Brothers; they are the best.
Aight, got the oil pump wiped down real quick and inspected. The feed gears look aight, some wear as suspected, can start to feel it with fingernail.
Now the scavenge gerotors...the inner side look aight, but the outer side that ride in the oil pump scored heaviest. On the gerotor it is more less uniform around, definitely catches the finger nail. But it is only in a certain area of the pump body.
