I also got around to getting the lower end out of the frame. Check out this mark though in the lifter bore, I hope y'all can see it..the scratch is horizontal with a step in it. And north of the scratch there are vertical wear marks, but everywhere else in the bore is glass smooth like the other three lifter bores.
I was hearing an odd noise when riding, would happen every ride, but at random times, could never time it. Was kind of a metallic rattle/clicking/ticking noise, mid ride...should I send in my cases to have that smoothed out?
Other pics, because why not, right?
JMHO but send the complete lower unit in for a full inspection of bearings, side play, etc. If having the Timken conversion done, a dummy shaft will be required to set up the crank clearnce; a trial and error process. So, unless a dummy shaft is handy, DIYing the reassembly is not possible.
Don't lose any sleep over the lifter bore; that could have happened on initial start up.
welding F/W`s wont stop F/W`s from moving,it will help a bit,but not anything close to plugging them.if your going to do your lower end,do it right (timken conversion, trued, balanced, plugged with new pin & bearings)
that face seems more scratched than I was anticipating...but they aren't gouges so..... A couple side by side pics
crank went out yesterday, should be there friday.....I also decided to go with the DK 587 high flow A/C, comes with the atmospheric vent I wanted already, comes with the backing plate, so seems like good move.
Been away a while. Slew of things Murphy'saw related, but I'm back. Almost got all the parts in, forgot to get lifters in the chaos, but got those in order. Got the cases cleaned up
New bearings pressed in (didn't snap pic of left side case)
