Default Piston Question

Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but i need an answer to satisfy my curiosity

(re)doing a piston search for my bike and am hip deep in the Wiseco catalog at current time, and there are three that fit my application.

All three are for a 98" build

All three have identical compression ratio listed (10:1)

All three are coated skirts and have identical specs listed

All three are Different part numbers and of course prices

Part numbers are K0209ps (tracker series), K2780 and VT2780. Neither of the latter two list "series" or any other marketing, and the catalog is vague at best.

Does anyone know what the differences are between the three types of pistons other than the final weight of the wallet?

thats what I originally thought, but the literature I can find on the "tracker series" (the cheapest btw) says they have "forged heads" whatever that means......

Wiseco had issues a couple of years back with 2mm oil rings but IIRC, all now have 3mm oil rings. If Wiseco is the piston of choice, just verify that Wiseco doesn't send some older pistons. I have read that the oil ring issue has been addressed and all pistons now come with 3mm oil rings.

The K2780 and xthe VT2780 are the same piston kit; the difference is that the VT kit includes head gaskets. I don't know anything about the Tracker series. I am partial to CP pistons; they are all I use now in the few rebuilds I have done.

ok, ill have to check on the oil ring. (Update: the ring packages are identical. 1.2mm top/second and 3mm oil) Makes sense that the others are the same piston, one just has gaskets. Damn proud of them gaskets they are though..... Ive done a bit deeper digging in , and it seems that the tracker series are still a forged piston, just forged closer to final shape so less machining, and therefore less cost. Took a good 2 hrs of digging to find that bit out though.... you would think that some places might be a bit more forthcoming about the differences in why their more expensive option is better, but, nope, all I found is why the other is cheaper...... go figure
