Huh, It would seem that I am wrong(as usual as my wife says) This thrust washer "disappeared" in the 1991 models. It's listed in the 1990 parts book but not in the 1991 and up. I'd still put one in.

Ok, I found out today that they replaced the shaped/angled thrust washer with the dog ears in around 1991/2 to the simple flat round one found in the later models. It's possibly a cost cutting change? Because from what I have understood the later model round ones are prone to spinning with the crank and wearing against the inner case, whereas the older style had the dog ears that held it in place...... Don't know why they would have changed it?

It disappeared when they changed everything in the cam chest.
Early motors had a tapered pinion shaft
Late motors had a straight shaft.
If you look at the 2 photos you can see the difference in the gear arrangement
The early cases had that small chamber in the lower left hand corner. Later cases it was all open.
You can't mix & match.
