We use the 48's here in 96" engines often.
Never any starting issues.
Truth be known, I believe they start better with the cam swap.

Default Tw555

What about woods 555? I do tend to stay at higher RPM and my bike is a light dyna. Any concerns here?

570s then before the 583s. They'll do better at a lower CR than the 555s but the 555s are a good cam too for folks that ride like us . Forgive me if you said what your CR is/was already or if it's changing. I run higher rpm too and running the 570s on a stock 103 at 9.6:1. S&S says from 9.2 to 10.1 for the 570s.
From FMs 103 cam shootout...

S&S 570 – 98.74Hp/109.95Tq
What S&S says: “570: Designed for 88 to 96 CID engines with compression ratios between 9:1 and 10:1 this cam will provide a nice power increase across the entire power band. 3200-5700 rpm. Excellent bolt-in for overall power on a 103".

Fuel Moto’s take: revs excellent, hits hard in the mid range and carries all the way to the limiter. Great horsepower, very flexible in a lot of applications.

S&S 583 – 90.97Hp/110.48Tq

What S&S says: “this cam makes horsepower and torque that you can feel all the way through the rpm range, making the most power right where you need it:1500–5000 rpm”

Fuel Moto’s take: fantastic early torque with broad power, very quick in the low-mid RPM’s. Not a horsepower king but it really shines from 1500-4000 RPM. Excellent curve

Wood Performance TW-555 – 97.53Hp/112.68tq

What Wood Performance says: “Ultra High Performance for your 96″,103″ & 110″ Street or Touring bike”

Fuel Moto’s take: makes very broad power, especially strong mid range, rev’s out really well with strong horsepower. Wide overall power curve.

Thanks. I’ve got a stock 96” not exactly sure where I’m at.
It’s just that Fuel Moto have suggested these(555)Cams for my bike and riding style. Not sure I should be second guessing them. But have heard a lot that they need more compression.

Andrews 48’s are what I will putting in my 96. Need to figure what would be best for my 88.

We installed, tuned, & tested 20 different sets of cams in a stock 103" engine. Lots of great choices for sure, you can find the specific test info & dyno charts here>

Really only two choices for the 88; S&S 509 or Andrews 26. The "I" in the below attachment is not me; pulled this from another forum, thought it worth archiving for future reference.

I seriously considered these...when I get tired of this and tear it down, I'll probably just do a 107 at 10.5:1 and these. When I told Bobby what I was looking for he insisted on them even at the stock 9.6 along with the 30 tooth from Evolution Industries. Ended up doing that anyway cuz the junk stock compensator became more noticeable and started knocking at start up and shut down with the cams.

Wood TW-999-6a – 101.35Hp/112.72Tq

What Wood Performance says: “Special Grind, For those that want to be #1, Awesome Sound, 3000 RPM & up, Also loves compression”

Fuel Moto’s take: everything we like in a hot rod cam; big horsepower, it ramps up & hits hard, and has a strong idle. Don’t lug this one, rev it and smile.
