Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I am putting them into the head bores first and i am at top dead center on rear cylinder but i wouldnt think top dead center would make a difference to just get the push rods in place but only for adjustment
With the piston at TDC on the Comp stroke, the cam lobes will be on their base circle, so the lifters will be at their lowest point. Do one cylinder at a time, get the piston to TDC on the compression stroke, and try inserting the pushrods into the lifter bores first. That should work.
Edited to add: you need to have the piston at TDC on the comp stroke to adjust the pushrods and set the preload anyway, so you may as well get it all done at the same time.
if all else fails remove the lifter blocks..install the collapsed pushrods and lifter blocks at the same time. installing the pushrods in the heads then lifters.
See my previous #2. Not sure what pushrods the OP has but if the pushrods won't clear the lifter blocks with the base attached, sounds like he has those shown in the attached instructions. See page 2, paragraph 6. Maybe follow the instructions?
