Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
So I posted earlier about couple cams and on other boards I was looking at for my build but after all the help here from members and also talking to some bike builders I came to the following two cams. I orginally was looking at 999 but decided against it. Scott from HIllside cycle said tw-8 is a great cam. wanted to get a consensus from you guys before I pull the trigger:
Woods TW-8-6 & Tman 590 ps2 for my build which is:
SS 110 - 10.7 comp springs 600 lift Mackie ported & finished heads (valves 1.9 / 1.61) 55mm TB - 5.3 injectors thrashin AR 2-1 SS Exhaust
I know the woods 8 can be noisy, Scott said doesnt see it a problem when using good lifters and loads them to .140"
Set up Properly the 8 is a monster cam. After 3000 rpm and can easily carry to 6500 rpm... Scott has a lot of experience with it.. Not too shabby for an 83" Evo. Imagine what it'll do in a big inch motor..

That exhaust SHOULD do very well with that overlap and really help with cylinder fill. Especially low end where those cams need help the most.
I say "should" because I haven't seen any kind of numbers or heard of anyone running it here period and I'm looking forward to seeing how it does. It uses the same patented anti-reversion baffles the Khromewerks HP Plus slip ons use that have been around for forever. Those baffles have been around for decades. Better than most 2in1s. Same patent number.
Very pricey but could prove to be one of the best 2in1 exhausts out there. Should sound kickass too, especially for a 2in1.
I'm betting you wont see that big dip in torque the dyno above has.
I ran the Khromewerks HP Plus slip ons on a Sporty build with cams that had 56° overlap, 256/256 duration was doing 80ft.lbs at 2300 in a 1250 and up from there

great to know, but which cam are you referring or both?
btw overlap on 590ps2 is 44

Either one.
Personally, I like what I've seen from the 999s. Either the 999-6 or the 999-6A depending on compression. 52° overlap. Great top end cams that do well down below too because of that overlap. Especially with the right exhaust.
But I don't know jack about the 2 you have here either so take my preference with a grain of salt.

I actually was looking at the 999-6 initially but was told valve to valve clearance can be issue.
