Default Grade 8 my ***...

You ever done this to a Grade 8 bolt with your wrist???

****er got tight, then broke loose right towards the end. This is where it left me:

I got it out, but damn what a crock of ****! This isn't the first rocker box bolt to snap on me well before a Grade 8 bolt should let go.

No way a grade 8 bolt should let go in that application. Factory or aftermarket bolt? Did you meet a lot of resistance before it broke? Was the hole clear of FOD and oil? I would check the other side to make sure you didn't hydraulic a hole through the casting.

Factory. And I've had that same bolt do the same thing to me on a Sportster back a few years ago.

Just that damn bolt too, nowhere else has that happened to be on a Harley.

Harley must have gotten a cheap batch back in the 90's. This is from 1994, my other one was 1996, and my dad broke the same bolt on his 1997 putting that engine back together.

Every time I see pics like that my stomach drops. I'd rather have a couple broken ribs, at least they'll fix themselves

AH the finest chinesium money can buy. Just kidding. I imagine it has something to do with corrosion. Galvanic corrosion between two dissimilar metals will cause material transfer between the two and will weaken the bolt.

May I ask how you removed the broken bolt?

That is a plausible situation here, but I would argue how many other engines I've ripped apart with 1/4" x 20 grade 8 bolts that are just as hard as day one.
