Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
All of the above has been checked by my mechanic. No witness marks anywhere. The engine was totally taken apart and all parts inspected. The noise happens, cold, hot or in between. I have been riding and have owned bikes since I was about 15 years of age. I am now 70. I am no expert, but I do know bikes. This one has me frustrated.
what cams are installed in the bike exactly? i just went back through the thread and did not see anything that identified exactly what you are running. Some cam profiles are noisy than others and roller rocker arms tend to make a bit more noise also. what cams you got,,,,,,,maybe something from Bob Wood?

Some cams can be noisy. So can reversion from cams. I don't see where you said what cam? Video?
Comparing it to a honda is just dumb. I'll take a noisy Harley any day.

I can't help. I do know how certain noises, or vibrations can become a thing of focus that you can't shake. I want to say that you've become obsessed with a sound and you can't get it out of your mind. I don't have the answer.
My old Shovelhead, well she bangs and clatters so much you want to put on safety goggles if you get down to take a look at her out of fear that something might shoot out of the motor. She is noisy, and all sorts of stuff is banging around inside. But the noises never change and I would be rather concerned if it stopped making so much clatter. The shovelheaeds, Yah, they all do that.

Would be nice to listen to a video of the noise.. And not a short one. Start video with a full view of the right side of the bike then move closer to the right cylinder head (6" away), then procede counter clockwise to the left head continueing down the pushrods tubes to the cam chest then back up to the right cylinder head.. do that twice real slow.. then do the same on the left side of the bike and post it up..
As said some cams are noisy.. You have a built motor not to be confused with a stock motor.. You referenced your 06, it's it stock?
