What is typically considered a safe redline for the evo engines? I've heard of spinning them to 6000 or a bit more, but wasn't sure if that is really pushing it, or if that is a fairly safe rpm for them?

Not too many builds continue to make power beyond 6000 rpm. Some can though and a Dyno tune will tell you that.. Otherwise 6k is good..
