Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
With air cleaner off at idle I feel good amount of pressure coming out of breather head bolt holes , as I Rev up motor that pressure decreases, is that normal ?
If you have truly determined the gasket is leaking or the o-rings in the pushrod covers are leaking bad enough to drip, fix it. I doubt it's from internal pressure. You can easily pop the air filter cover and rev it and fill it if vents are open.
Someone just may have had it apart to do some modifications to pushrods or such. If it's leaking, snap up the retainer and replace the O-rings. If it's the lifter cover, heat the bolts carefully and remove them. If you don't heat them, those bolts are bad about breaking since Harley glues them in with coated bolts. (Coating on the bolts is a form of glue.. not Loctite and penetrant is worthless on it. Carefully lift the cover and replace the gasket. All this can be done without taking other stuff apart.
Split the o-rings with one square cut with a sharp razor blade. Use Loctite 404 442-46551 Instant o-ring glue. There are probably others that will work (I just have that one). Split the gasket across one of the bolt holes. Use just a film of Loctite RTV black on the gasket. A small film at the o-ring split. Remember, just a film off RTV. You don't want any oozing out but mainly none oozing in. If you do get it oozing out, let it dry before messing with it. It will just roll off.
Be sure to check your exact model in fish for part numbers. You don't have a signature line of your exact model and all the letters.

Ok, after another dissassembled look at pushrod covers, the center oring, that goes under the spring, in cap, that seals cover is missing!!??? Why tf is the question now? What did someone else do or does Harley factory not install these anymore???
OK,, You might want to pull the cam cover and see if the original owner tried to change cams. It appears that someone didn't know what they were doing.. Guy did his own work and blames it on a dealer? If the dealer had done it, why didn't he take it back when he noticed the leak?
Claims didn't know was leaking!! Said didn't have any work done while he owned it besides normal service!! In his defense, it's an all blacked out streetglide, and it blended with the black, all the road dust and oil was a black grime!!
