Default Feuling hp+ preload

Installed a set of these when I did a cam upgrade to Andrews 48. Feuling recommended .90 to .100 preload , however many more experienced members suggested more in the .140 to .150 range (at least with s&s, Johnson etc they did) Following that I adjusted to .131 on SE tapered PRs. Bike runs fine but does have that whiney sewing machine sound at the 2000 rpm range.
I never noticed that before the install.
is that just a byproduct of the cam and lifter change or should I have followed feuling and left it at .100?
I thought .131 was a good middle ground…

Your pre-load is fine. JMHO but "whiney sewing machine" is OK.

Excellent, thanks Don for the reply. I figured I was being overly sensitive to the different engine sounds. She does run really well!

I have run those lifters with Woods Cams for years and do the same - I've adjusted them to the .125- .140 range - they work fine

Great thanks EJ. I’m right in the middle of that range so all is good.

You are welcome Sir - With their Race lifters Feuling says .100 & no more , with the HP 4000 it's OK
