I have a RS468 in my M8 and it has plenty of roll on power even if I let the rpms drop as low as you indicated above

M8 is a different animal than the twin cam and much of the gospel that applies to twin cam isn't as revelant in the M8

It's your bike do what you want

This is my 17 CVO stree Glide before and after some upgrades

stage two expectations-if4ftfil.jpg

you can see the gains made from 2200rpm up(blue), but also notice how fast the torque drops on the stock configuration(red), where the new cam holds on much longer

Also something to think about is just throwing a cam at it isn't going to maxamize your gains, upgrades should be considered as a whole system

In this case the exhaust, throttle body, and air cleaner were replaced as well to get the most out of the cam change

I'd say yes and no. Yes if you are trying to pass someone in 5th gear at 2500 and you roll on the throttle, its not gonna jump like you think. Now you downshift into 4th and roll on it your probably at 3000 and in a better RPM range to get up and go. Most people I ride with are between 2500 and 4500 RPM, depending on situation. I think you're better suited learning how your bike responds in RPM range, gear selection, and the riding situation you are in. My 2 cents.

Ride safe!
