Default Cams - Stage 2 question

Hello. I’m “new” to this forum, as in I’ve just now posted something but have been looking at a lot of posts in here.

my question today is this. I just bought an 06 deuce, and planned on replacing cam chain tensioners and cams while I’m at it. It already has stage 1, and I’ve narrowed it down to two cams: S&S 509’s and Andrews 37h. Which should I go with for my applications?

I mostly do around town and backroads riding so I’m looking for more low-end torque but still want to be able to pick up and go when I need. I’m not planning on doing any other engine modifications after this, and am hopefully looking for cams that are between $300-500. Just hoping for some expert opinions, because looking through all the other forums just confused the crap outta me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(On a side note after I install cams I need to get the bike tuned, right? I haven’t heard a lot of people saying they got theirs tuned, but also heard a few say that it should be done. Just wondering)

It would help to know what exhaust was part of the Stage 1 upgrade. '06 FXSTD is an 88" motor; S&S 509s or Andrews 26 are the "go to" cams for the TC88; the 509 woudl be my choice but JMHO. The 37 will be too soft; needs more compression; same for the Woods 222. Definitely need a proper dyno tune.

Do you know anything about the andrews 48? Someone responded and said they’d be good, but I hadn’t heard about them before this point. If not, don’t worry about it. Still confused as ever lol

What rpms do you typically shift at

Andrews 21 was also a go to cam for 99-06 TC88 with stock bore and heads.
Being an 06, the 06 heads should support the higher lift of the andrews 48 cams.but haven't heard of anyone using them in an otherwise stock 88
S&S 509 would also work

Andrews 37 would definitely be soft bottom end for stock 88. You would be disappointed I think

just guesstimating, but i probably shift around 3-4k if I’m not just cruising or whatever. Not entirely sure on that though because I don’t have a tachometer on my bike so I’m not sure what exactly 3k rpm sounds like. I definitely want something with low end torque, but want it to carry far enough through the rpm range that the power is there wherever I need it.

I have the Andrews 48's in my 05 Fat boy. No other engine work is done. These cams pull like a tractor all the way to redline . Look at my sig to see everything done. The exhaust sound is amazing as well .

The Andrews 48 is an excellent cam for a 96 or 103 cu in - your bike should be an 88 cu in - unless you are planning a compression increase, S&S 509 or Andrews 21 would be my first choices on an otherwise stock motor
