Thumbs up Left over part

I'm sorry, this is dumb. I just did some work on my 2000RKC. renewed starter solenoid, air cleaner clean & oil, rear wheel fix flat.rebuild rear caliper, seat & side covers off.
When I got done this little piece was laying under the MC. Make fun of me all you want, but does anybody know where this goes??
Left over parts is disturbing.

Could be a wheel spacer.

Take a pic of it in your hand so we can see the size.

To avoid this issue later, make sure you bag and identify parts as they are removed, don`t just drop them into a box, tub etc.

Hi Dan, Definitely a good idea to bag parts as they come apart. I did so last year when I overhauled 4 carbs on my '80 Goldwing.
But I didn't get the chance this time as it fell out somehow during my work efforts.

Picture attached to give scale. I can give exact dims. if needed.

To "Hey Man": it's too small to be an axle spacer but thanks!

On pinkie finger as far as it can go.

I'd venture something from the air cleaner or side covers, wouldn't be for the wheel anywhere. Find a parts breakdown of inside the starter maybe.

What on his project involves a sleeve of some sort? (Starter / Prmary ??)

Y'all are really making me think. I was in the solenoid (contact/bolt kit), but not in the starter.
I did have the primary cover off but only to fix a leaky gasket, no work in there.

If I'd had any buddies over, I might think that some wiseguy might have dropped an extra part to make me bat crap crazy, but nobody's been in the shed.
(I've done that years back, but I always confessed before their sanity was lost!)

I was thinking the bushing for the starter shaft extension where it goes thru the inner primary, Part #19, but the OP says he didn't go that deep into it.........

Or is that one brass?

Generally, when you have parts left over, it is a sure sign that the unit was over engineered anyway.

That's roughly the same size as the removable focusing ring that fits my telescoping magnet pickup tool.
