I'm not opposed to replacing these with the same thing but only if that means I don't have to mess with a tune. If I have to do that anyway I'd rather have the 509.

That cam pic has visible pitting on it. Its beyond the typical frosting HD considers normal.
hd cams are surface harden and there will be some pitting and actually it may already had been there.
if it is less that 20% surface and random, you can run them but to make yourself warm and fuzzy go for it.
if i get a chance it will takes some pictures of one with 175k miles and were running happy as a meadow lark until it was frame restoration and bird in hand up the ponies. actually the p cams are better than the y cams.

If I saw those in an engine in the shop they would not be going back in and the lifters would be out too.
If you can get someone to tune for them, I absolutely loved my 509C in my 03. They really woke the bike up, even my wife noticed it. I thought they sounded good too.
If you can't find a tuner that you trust or have a map to download (not familiar with the MM system so not sure if this is possible), I would just go back with the same spec cams so that you don't have to mess with it.
