2005 Dyna with fuel inj and 11,000 Mies. Starts, runs, travels and then whenever shuts down. Wait 20 or 30 minutes and starts up again. Put in new plugs, no better. Fuels ok and no codes.Thinking maybe fuel filter, already ordered. Any other ideas.
You didn't specify but I'm assuming it cranks but doesn't start? If that's the case then it's missing either spark, fuel, or compression. You can pretty much rule out compression because compression isn't something you generally lose and then it returns so that leaves spark or fuel. Pull a plug wire and see if it has spark while cranking and/or shoot a bit of fuel into the intake. Until we have that info it's just an expensive guessing game.
You might need more than just the fuel filter. Check the lines in the tank and the regulator by priming the fuel pump. It's a good chance you'll need to replace that setup.
I would check for spark first, I have seen coils break down when they get hot, once they cool down they work fine for awhile, make sure you are getting a strong spark, a weak spark will prevent the bike from starting as well. Then I would look at fuel.
How far are you "travels" ..before it shutdown...in traffic, rolling down hi way ...etc..???
could it be overheating ??? have any way of checking head/engine temp....???
Have an infrared temperature gun..by chance ???
