bought my first Harley the other day. A used 2004 Dyna. 44,000 mi. On a short ride this morning, when I would roll back on the throttle, it seemed to bog down and not accelerate. It seemed like the engine was struggling to get fuel and the eventually would go. Then when I got home, it stalled out...almost like it flooded. Couldn't get it to restart. Pushed it to my garage and then it started again. It is fuel injected. My initial thoughts are plugs or fuel filter. Any suggestions? I also washed it this morning. Just bought some sea foam and gonna check the plugs soon.
Starving for fuel and flooded are polar opposites and it is likely that it's one or the other, but not both. You should check under your seat for an aftermarket performance tuner, like the Vance & Hines Fuelpak. Tuners control how much fuel is supplied on deceleration. There is a fine balance between backfires and stalling. Some folks when they put on performance pipes don't like that they can now hear decel popping and adjust the tuner to get rid of it. The problem is it can make the bike stall on deceleration due to a lack of fuel.
If the bike idles and cruises fine then it is probably not your fuel, fuel filter, fuel pump or spark plugs, but it never hurts to check.
