I have a 2011 CVO 110 and purchased the 117 kit. The build is as follows;
Standard 117 kit with 5.3inj, 58mm TB, 9.9:1 pistons with the exception of;
.03 head gasket
Woods TW-7H cam
Adjustable pushrods
SE CamPlate and Oil pump
Trask Air Cleaner
currently have true duals with Tab slip-ons
My 110 with the Trask AirCleaner and Duals showed 92.51hp and 115.85Tq
My 117 build with Trask AirCleaner and Duals shows 98.87hp and 112.18Tq
I am told that it must be the exhaust so we are ordering a 2-1 exhaust.but it makes no sense that with the same exhaust i am showing so little gain in hp and losing in torque.
Any help would be appreciated.
First question comes to mind is who did the tune; the tune is certainly suspect. All things being equal, the 7 addtional cubic inches should have shown an improvement in both TQ/HP. I would be looking at the tune and considering another tuner.
Is the red line the 117? Because irrespective of the peak torque, there's a huge fat area under that curve at low RPM that is way more important than the torque peak. If you're that concerned about the peak, install a bigger cam.
It is at the Harley dealership where the 117 kit was installed. I could be wrong but i believe they said they started with the harley 117 map since they didn't have a map with the woods cam and then started tuning from there. It is on a dynojet.SAE smoothing 5
i switched to the TW-7h because the cam calculator showed with my build it would be at 9.48:1 corrected compressions and 197.9 CCC. The 259-e showed 9.17:1 corrected compression and 189.7 CCC so I thought the tw-7h would help with lower end torque since I ride 2 up most of the time and still help with total power. I could have been totally mistaken. I just thought people had said in the past that if you didn't use higher compression you would fall short with the 259-e.
I could have them put the 259-e back in and maybe go with suburban 117 pistons with +6.6cc dome. That would put it up to 9.87:1 corrected and 208.3 CCC.
I don't disagree with the other posters comments but very suspect of the quality of a dealer tune. The OP's dealer may be the exeption to the rule but as a general rule, dealer tuners don't have a good track record. Before I would start changing exhaust sytems or cams, I would get the bike in the hands of a tuner known for their proficiency. What software was used to tune?
@krackken Where are you located? Maybe we can point you to a known tuner in your area?
Thanks, I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They use a dynamometer 250ix with supertuner and sell me a powervision license. I'm not 100% what the software version is.
Your cams and the exhaust are both working against it, I wouldnt expect any tuner to get a lot out of it. Before Id change pistons Id spend the money on a different set of cams. Heres a link to a 117 drop on with cyclerama 575 cams, which has the low end youre wanting, further down he shows what it did with 259s
