Default 2007 Yamaha Vstar 650

Hi,

I'm trying to adjust my timing chain and I have a simple question. Let's say I adjust my rear cylinder first, it's lined up perfectly with the guide marks, but on my front cylinder it looks like it does in my picture where it's not lined up because the mark on the camshaft is at the bottom and not the top; is this normal? Are both supposed to be up top and lined up at the same time?

Thanks,

B.

farmerjohn64, I have good news and bad news. 1st the GOOD NEWS - this a HARLEY FORUM. Now the BAD NEWS - you are asking questions about a Yamaha repair here at HD FORUM. What were you thinking. Go find a V Star Forum.

You really need to be on the Yamaha forum. But unlike a Harley, your twin does not share a single crank pin. I had a 1100 V-Star Custom . My son had 650.

I only adjusted the valves. I assume that's what you are doing since what you show is not adjustable manual.

Think it's saying top dead center and your cam mark aligned after cylinder one is probably two turns of the crank at other line will aline cam again.

PS.. Welcome as a fellow two wheeler. If you do stick around, hope you enjoy your ride here. And only as a suggestion, introduce yourself over in the new member welcome area to say hello.

Yes because nobody who knows anything about a Harley, also a motorcycle, can't help a fella out and answer this question for me; this is my first bike and I'm trying to get it running right. I've posted on several forums trying to figure this out because after taking my bike apart 3 times now I'd rather not put it back together just to have to take it apart yet again because I did it wrong. Now if you're willing to help, I sure would appreciate it, but if not then unless you're the mod police on this forum then you can ride off into the sunset, friend.

Read post 3... What exactly did you take apart and what exactly before taking that apart were you attempting to do?

This forum was and most likely still a good place for you to get info.
https://forums.delphiforums.com/yama...ssages/63143/2

Now something you need to learn is some forum manners.
You should go in with hat in hand attitude to ASK for some help being ,a newibe FNG (F'in New Guy )
You go in there with this attitude you'll get kicked to the curb as fast or faster than this place.

This is close to taking a Ford 150 to a GMC dealer for repairs Its a dumb move sir

Good Luck WP

Turn the CRANKSHAFT one more full rotation. Where does that mark land, then?

That manual is listing the valve adjustment procedure, no? You said you were adjusting the the timing chain?

Fuel tank and Carb, namely. You see my bike sat up because I had a bad rectifier, fuel went bad, clogged my carb; I drained my fuel tank, cleaned my carb, slapped it all back together and it now runs; however, it has this throttle response delay where you give it some throttle and it takes about a second before that turns into engine power. It also makes this mechanical whining noise when idling that sounds just like the problem this guy was having in this video, he adjusted the timing chain and it fixed it. Now if that's my only problem, I don't know, but I've had this problem since I've had the bike

If I turn it one full rotation it will be lined up almost perfectly with that marking "I" on the crankshaft, but then on the other header the mark on that one will be at the bottom; that's what I'm confused about. Appreciate the response.
