Hello. I just "finished" putting together my first fxr. I got it started after priming the pump, following what I believe to be the correct procedure since it was pumping the oil. The problem I'm having is that the oil is not returning to the oil bag - it is all blowing out of the vent port located above the oil bag and the case breather. Someone I spoke to said I must have the routing on the oil lines incorrect, which wouldn't be too far fetched since I was pretty confused. For the record, I am pretty confident I got it right though. Is there anyone out there that can explain exactly how to route the lines and if you have any other ideas on what might be causing this, please let me know. I would seriously appreciate it because I'm not an EVO genius and I'm lost. The pictures are to show the type of oil bag I have and the oil pump on my bike is in the same configuration as this one, minus the chain oiler/primary oil return. And like I said, I don't think this has to do with the routing of the oil lines, just figured I'd mention it. Thank you.
I'm also trying to solve a similar situation with a 1991 Softail custom 1340. This is actually my good friend and next door neighbors bike but he's just not a online form kinda dude so I'm trying to relay any information I find to hom.
Alright so let's start with some stuff his recently done to this beautiful piece of machinery.
All new top end seals after a failed oil pump and bent push rod so new rods, seals, pump and lines. So when she fired up everything appeared to be running smoothly at idle anyway but after a short ride at low rpms there's a decent amount of chatter from what I believe is coming from the lifters and there was a good amount of oil coming out of the breather area. Anything opinions or information would be greatly appreciated
Does the oil pressure light go out? Remove the oil filter and turn the engine over. If no oil comes out of the filter adapter, the return side of the oil pump is not pumping oil out of the crankcase. It's possible that there was leftover debris left in the engine from the last failure and got sucked into the oil pump and sheared a key in the pump, so if there is no oil pressure or return the oil pump is going to have to be disassembled and inspected for sheared keys, broken gears, and debris. Good luck.
