Default Engine swap
2001 Softail Fuel Injected. Can I install an engine from 2002 with Carb, maintaining the original fuel injection?

It should be an easy swap. I don't understand yer logic. 02 got a carb, get the correct wire harness for the ignition modual. It'll run a hell of a lot better without the MM EFI on it.

The carbed engine is less intake and carb. The FI from the original engine performed flawlessly, I have no need to change it

2001 softail was delpi. They came out in delphi year before they came out in touring bikes.

Now that I did not know. But often harley makes changes in softails or dynas before rolling it out to touring bikes. Less bikes to recall I guess.

2000 was last year for MMI.

2001 and later are Delphi.

2001 was first year for fuel injection on Softail.

To answer the OP, yes you can install the 02 engine. Just install the intake/tb as usual.
