The question to me is, did they increase it to decrease warrnty claims, and if so for good or bad?

I am curious is harley changes the specs in the books as time goes. If I bought 2006 manual today, would it have the same spec?

You are right off course. I plan to change the cam later this year, then I will check it.

My manual is a pdf-file which I downloaded from the net. There it says 0.003” pinion side.

Yep, 0.012 seems to be awfully much. What will happen to the oil pump with that much runout? I feel sorry for all those Harley riders who got scissored cranks and ruined engines.

which is bootleg. I wonder if they updated it over the years.

To my knowledge. harley pdfs are bootleg. I like paper, but the prices have sure gotten crazy. When I bought one in 2007 it was around $70. Now I think $150 or so.

When did you buy it? I never looked to see if they rev dates, or if they do revs.

I checked my 2006 Touring Model Service Manual and my 2012 Touring Model Service Manual.

2006 - Max flywheel runout is .005"

2012 - Max flywheel runout is .012"

On which side? Mine says 0.003 on the pinion side and nothing about the primary side.

Anyway, it is obvious that Harley avoided guarantee reparation costs by gradually increasing the runout service limit.

I guess the only way to be safe is to either have the crank trued and welded or replaced by a Dark Horse or a S&S.

2005 Softail manual still holds max runout at .003"; was not aware of a change for the '06 models.

I found this in an older thread.

I do not know from which manual, though.
