Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Hi, I have a strange problem with my 2017 Fat Boy, Twin Cam 103 engine.
After it is very hot, a strange noise starts, as if something is scraping around the cam plate. I can't identify where the noise is coming from.
When driving and cooling, the noise stops, but when stopping at a traffic light, for example, after a certain time (1 or 2 minutes) the noise returns.
The engine has 20 thousand miles, maintenance and oil changes are up to date, currently using Motul 5100.
I attached 2 videos: one of them with the noise and the other after 5 minutes with the engine off.
Note: in none of the videos did the engine activate the EITMS.
In the "hot" video, I understand that the noise is normal. The noise appears on "very hot" video.
Simple fix. Get that Motul 5100 15w50 outta there. TOO THIN!! Harley RECOMMENDS 20w50. I've got over 107,000 on my 07 Dyna. 20w50 from day one.
I'm sure that you know the 15 number is for cold starting, right? The number 50 is what counts for "hot" operation. Changing oil won't do anything imo. Now if you say a 60wt as a test then I would agree with ya.
