Default Installing Andrews 57 on a Dyna 06

PART ONE
Checking Valve To Valve Clearance

As I do not possess the Trock Tool, I did this:

1/ Having the valves closed and locked by clothespins, I measured the distances from them to the top of the valve stems

2/ These distances were subtracted by the TDC lifts for the intake and exhaust valves, in order to push them down to the correct lift

3/ The valves were pushed down to the right distances

3/ The clearance between the valves were first measured by a feeler gauge then by a caliper

The results were 0.100” Valve To Valve Clearance on both the rear and front heads.

Have an Andrew 57 in my 2014 Super Glide. It made it come alive.

Don't know about the measuring but it should be fine. I have that cam with 06 up heads (skim pass), SE 95 pistons(shaved)and cometic.030 inch gasket. Valves only lapped though.

Default Checking crankshaft runout

Just the the lifters, camplate, cams and oil pump out.
Just got the lifters, camplate, cams and oil pump out.

Since big bore 10.000 miles and three years ago, running my bike with Andrews 26, (with a cold crank compression of 192/194 psi*), I have had a concern about the crankshaft runout, thus being careful not to lug the engine. Also I pulled timing from the original timing table from Dynojet.

Luckily the runout is okay, measured as below:
0.0019 (measured runout) + 0.0002 (measured gap/end play) = 0.0021” (total runout)

Fueling puts the max total runout for gear cam at 0.003” and the max total runout for chain cam at 0.005”.

*Measured with some carbon build up, should be mentioned

Default On step at a time

Now Andrews 57 is installed in the Fueling oe+ camplate.

I used two pair of circlip pliers; first the one that opens, then the one that closes, to make the circlip snap into its place.

I put 57's in an 88" 06 Dyna that had 97" jugs and worked heads, it previously had 37's, tuned it, the bike never felt right with the 57's, eventually replaced them with 408-44's, it was happy with those. Maybe it was just an anomaly but I thought perhaps the 4" stroke or the worked heads didn't jell with the 57's, I asked around at the time but got no useful feedback, I then put the 57's into a 2010 softail with 106" jugs and near identical heads that were done by the same chap, tuned it and it was great, just my experience, no real guidance there but I'll be really interested to hear how yours comes out in the end.

Ok, thanks for sharing your experience. Hope I will be happy with the cam, though.
