It's a shame about Ultima. Seems like they had the bugs worked out and building good products and then they close the doors.
I talked to the main guy over the assembly and warranty for the motor side often. He was shocked when they told him. He said they were completely busy and couldn’t keep product on the shelf. He told me he had back orders of EL Bruto Crate motors for distributors that was months of work and revenue. He couldn’t understand why they were shutting it down. At that time he didn’t know Ted’s was buying. He believed they were just closing everything. I had a number for him but he hasn’t answered, I’d love to know if he went to work for V-twin.. I kinda doubt it.
I have a friend of a friend kinda thing and have heard other rumors I don’t wanna repeat, but it “could” resurface with V-Twin. I just don’t think they will source materials from the same places and that’s worrisome.
One “rumor” that I heard some time ago was S&S and Ultima used the same place to make a particular product. I was told Ultima spec’d far better quality for certain things. One was for a product (Forging) that retailed several hundred dollars that S&S used something much inferior over 7 cents. It was from the S&S side I heard it. They used inferior materials over 7 cents absorbed by something retailing for several hundreds. Ultima really was top notch. Both companies used raw materials and machined them here in the us, both assembled here in the us.. Hold their rods in one hand and S&S in the other.. look at the quality of the cases. The heads flo such superior numbers right out of the box. It was probably bitter sweet for dealers trying to sell protected product when people (like me) could find deals at almost their cost. That’s where S&S dis a good job being loyal to their distributors… but as a consumer… I sure liked Ultimas prices.

I agree. In the 90's I bought a primary cover from V-Twin (Tedd) & it was an OEM Harley part shipped in a Harley box. These days, buying something from them is like buying something from Amazon. You never know...
Now, if Summit Racing started building Ultima engines we might have something really good. They have the resources to do it.

That would be FANTASTIC! If Summit did support the Ultima motors id keep my 113" Fatboy. Please keep me posted of any of your findings! Thanks for all of your efforts. Kenny Wise

The thing about Summit was just a musing, Ken. Wouldn't it be good, though. If you keep the 113", I'm sure you'll be able to find parts for it because there's got to be folks out there who have them.
