Any here have one of these custom bikes? hard or soft tail?
would like to know as one local to me has come up for sale. I was looking at it looks good. Has a 100ci S&S engine, baker 6 speed. its a 2004.
We used to sell the Independence line when I was with Indian , personally I would avoid that bike . Up to 2003 when the dealer tanked none of the bikes we got in from the factory could be sold before being treaked over and debugged and they did some cheesy stuff on those bikes , like off setting the front wheel an inch to one side to compensate for the engine and tranny being offset in the frame on some models and crap like that . Those came with RevTech engines not S&S and we had continual problems with those early 100" motors , replaced 6 of them with less than 500 miles on them . And the list could go on , of all the box choppers out there they are worst I've personally dealt with . If it's really cheap and you like projects would be the only way I'd even look at one .

what would you consider really cheap for a chopper? I already seen this one in person and know for a fact it has a 100CI S&S engine I checked the serial number with S&S. Could it have been an upgrade prior to this owner getting it? when the guy who is now selling it purchased the chopper he was told the S&S was the original engine and the baker 6 speed was the original trans. I have not seen any other independence express customs with a S&S or the baker trans online. But he does not know who built the bike he bought it used.
thanks Jeff
Somebody may done some swapping if it's an S&S and are I know Independence used the Korean 6 sp , Baker has their name embossed on the tranny case hard to miss . Wasn't anything high end them during my time dealing with off the shipping truck . Don't what happened after 04 or if they changed up to what your looking at . Price wise I'm not the one to ask , I build my own and occasionally for other people and a nice chop can be had your way for as little $8000 if you bargain shop .

Well I went back and checked it out again. He is asking $9k O.B.O. The trans is a baker for sure. He says the guy he got it from bought it from a local dealer that went out of business. He said the P.O. bought it new in 04 and it is titled as a manufactured bike not as a kit or custom. He also told me he was told when he bought the bike that the manufacture switched to the S&S engine to try and save them selves after all the bad press about the Rev Tech engines. As for the baker trans he said he thinks the dealer swapped the trans as the P.O. gave him a work order from the dealer on a trans repair/replace. He is not sure how many miles are on the bike cause the speedo has been replaced. Engine runs good. Trans shifted fine. No leaks or anything.

Ya all that makes sense and that's a positive thing for you , the 2 biggest headaches with those have been dealt with already and probably a good bit of the nic knack bugs too . Work him on the price , good luck .

Just remember the most disappointing words in buying a bike. The Owner said, I was told, I heard., I saw on the internet .All meaningless unless documented , researched and proven. Good luck if it turns out to be something you want.
A long list of builders put out these bikes all went belly up. Most had issues and as they were entering total failure the bikes got worst. Do your home work. Don't BS yourself just because you want it.
2006 I got out of Irlend Army hospital. There was a Iron horse dealer near by. I stopped in and fell in love with the Outlaw. On a trip back for last check up. Called wife told her I was not flying home but riding. Then took a test ride. I left the darn thing sit right where it was.
Bar stool is all it was with a really storng engine.
