I just picked up my 09 Ultra last week. I had an 05, 06,and 08 Ultra the last few years. I changed out the stock pipes on my 05 and 08 Ultra's and had great performance and sound with the Wild Pig pipes and no other changes. I changed out the pipes on my 06 Ultra with the same wild pig pipes, added a K&N filter and the stage 1 download and lost about 5 mpg. I just installed a set of Supertrapp slip on's with the IDS tunable disc's on my new 09 Ultra. Run's great, with no decell popping, but too quiet for me with 15 discs on the right side and 9 on the left side per Supertrapps customer service reps. To get more sound I need to add more discs to increase the lenght of the baffle, which in turn leans out the EFI. I just ordered 12 more disc's, but will also need to install a new free flow filter such as a K&N and map the EFI with a stage 1 download as I did my 06. Has anyone done this on a 09? If so did you lose gas milage? I can live with 1 or 2 mpg, but a 5 mpg loss was killing me on the 06, Thanks Tom
You'll loose milage. More Air+More Fuel = More power which we all love.
I'd just get a tuner, and stick it on a dyno. EFI is great, because you can run it real lean (safely) at 14.6:1 for cruising around (closed-loop), but then tune it to run where it needs to (13.3:1ish) for power. The flash is EPA approved, and won't do any of it "just right" like a good tune will.
