Mods Technique For Quiet Pipes
I wanted a bit more rumble and modified them as follows:
Got a 1-1/4 inch wood dowel X 10 inches long;
Bought a long drill (1/4 dia X 12 INCHES LONG);
Drilled a 1/4 inch hole lengthwise thru center of dowel;
Inserted dowel into muffler (Fits inside baffle);
Inserted drill thru hole and drilled hole in baffle, centered by the dowel;
Got a 5/8 inch drill and a drill extension;
Inserted drill so it engaged 1/4 inch hole in baffle and drilled to larger dia;
Result: You will get excellent improvement in sound, and size of hole will dictate how much loudness you get:
1/4 inch hole will give very small increase of sound:
3/8 inch hole will give small increase of sound:
1/2 inch hole will give medium increase of sound:
5/8 1/4 inch hole will give larger increase of sound:
3/4 inch hole will give moderately large increase of sound but substantailly less than streight pipes.
There are techniques to completely remove the baffles, but that will produce extreme loudness and in many states, running without baffles is illegal.
