read the baffle removal thread from 06 and it was very helpful but im a bit paranoid. i have an '06 883 and was wondering if any one had a diagram or some step by step pics for me to take a look at before i get started. or at least a place online i could get a look. i want some more sound but cant afford to get new pipes if i screw this up. lol thanks

Honestly, wouldn't do it with stock pipes. It's not really worth it. If you're patient and just save up about 90 bucks a set of drags from paughco are usually easy to come by. If you want a REALLY kick *** sound, you can also get a set of Cocktail Shakers off J&P for about 75/80 a piece. Because of their design, they can be run without baffles and sound AMAZING. It's generally alot of work and a big disappointment to modify stock mufflers from my experience. Just my 2 cents.

Wanting more sound from my stock pipes I did alot of research. Some say do it some say don't do it. Well I did it. I drilled a 3/8 inch hole using and extension with the pipes on the bike. This took less than 5 minutes. I like the sound. I eventually drilled another 3/8 hole in each pipe and I'm happy with the sound and so were others. It's not the expensive sound that I would like but can't afford the $$$ right now but at least I can hear it run.

I don't think you are suppose to post from another sight, but there is a guy called gonk from XL forums and how he took out his baffles opened up all the holes in his baffles and reassembled them. not very hard to do. he likes the sound gave a nice rumble

Hey, Did the stock mufflers on my 06 and it does sound better. It still has a baffled sound but when I get on it you can tell it is a Harley now. Still does not sound like aftermarket pipes though. The back one was easy, the front one took about 4hrs counting getting the converter out. I made the baffle holes 1/4" and removed the plate that blocks the middle of the baffle. Then welded the baffle back in. Wish I had made the holes BIGGER! Thanks Mark

For budget reasons I took the stock mufflers off of the wifes 04 1200R and drilled a series of small holes around the edge of the baffles then took a long screw driver and punch to remove the remainder of the baffles. When finished which was a little bit of work I reinstalled the mufflers leavin the muffler cores intact. The sound is not as good as doing the same procedure on a twin cam with the shotgun mufflers but still better than stock. That will do ok until we can get a set of Rush slip ons which will really make the bike sound sweet!
