How are you going to account for the growth of the aluminum cylinders?
You can't and it'll rattle worse than the old panheads did when hot . Lotta guys want to do this and I've yet to figure out why with evo lifters , with a decent set they are the **** . Only reason to run solids in a later bike is an all out high RPM motor in a drag bike or something like and most all the cams for Evo's are ground to use hyd. not solid lifters , no gain .
Yea, at lunch I took a closer look and took them apart definitely solids... And thanks I am familiar with setting them up. I remember the first I adjusted a solid lift cam. It was a Dodge dart with a 225 slant six... Couldn't kill that thing....
Ah **** did it again... Wrong thread...

there are advantages to it. yes, it will change cam profile either to the good or bad depending upon the grind. i run rivera adj p/r with s&s limiters and yes, it gets pulled to 7.5k. they are adj with just enough stroke to quite the lifter. if the solids are set right, they do not make that much noise.
well i have 180k on solid lifters and still kicking.
slant six was a good engine but there was a weak point, the distributor drive gear. they also had a weird cyl wear pattern. the 225 was a good truck engine and with a 4 bangger on it would run pretty good for a six. however, not match for the pontiac 6 in some of the birds. i knew a guy with one that would smoke a 400 goat offline with goat only getting it at the very end by a narrow margin.
because of the extra stresses and maintenance involved. a hi lift cam with solid lifters in an evo or tc is going to require period adjustments, stress other parts(size changes with temp) and generally there is no real advantage in my view.
a good set of hydraulics, properly adjusted and proper services and practices make them a set it and forget deal. yes you might pick up some more power, but to me the minute power increase is not worth the stuff that comes with it.
it's just my opinion.

So it's really your opinion then. I've had more issues with hydraulic lifters pumping up and taking out valves than I can shake a stick at.. A solid had less of a chance of taking out a motor...
