Usually just one screw at the bottom of the battery box.

If you can get the bike started with a jump. But battery still reads 11.6 +/- then it is safe to assume that the charging system is not working correctly, no? Does this mean its definitely the stator? Or could it still be the voltage regulator?

I ended up replacing my starter in my 1999 Dyna Convertible FXDS, but ran into trouble when putting it back together. I have mixed info on the amount of torque to applly to the jack shaft bolt. The locking washer seems like it's sticking out a bit, like it was overtorqued and pushed out. The owner's manual said 84 in/lb minimum, but the starter install instructions say apply 5 pounts of torque. Thoughts?

I had this issue on a tri-glide before. I removed the starter cleaned the surfaces where the starter meets the engine (main ground), put it back together and it’s been fine ever since.

My book say 7 ft lbs or 84 in lbs (for a 1994). Just be careful, bolt is easily broken.
